Porterville Post Columnists
In the coming weeks, many of these writers and columnists {above} will be sharing their personal views and opinions. The Post - as well - will be looking for ways for you to comment on these columns, and not just a simple fill-in-the-blanks with a pseudonym or pseudo-name. We want your comments, but we also want your real name.

[ 01|15|10] Thank You, Governor Jesse Ventura
According to press reports, 1.6 million watched the premiere episode on Dec 2, which set a record for the network. I was one of those viewers. And I've seen each of this first season's 7 episodes. Predictably, mainstream critics have universally condemned the series. Linda Stasi of The Washington Times said the show is "Mindless, good fun and a hoot to watch aging action stars still taking action." Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times said, "Whatever truth is out there, it's filtered here through what is arranged more as an adventure series than a documentary."

[ 04|24|09] Importance of being judgmental
I received this report of the contents of books in the Neale Walsch series "Conversations with God" from one of my e-mail correspondents. (Reportedly, Walsch's work is one of Oprah Winfrey's particular favorites.) I was struck by the self-evident contradiction that has Walsch's god saying, "There is no such thing as right or wrong" in one breath, and "this is wrong" in the next. Obviously Walsh's god has no problem applying a concept while declaring that it doesn't exist.

[ 03|20|09] A fearful thing, betraying Israel
One can really tell that the International Herald Tribune is the sister publication of the New York Times. Like the New York Times, the IHT never saw a liberal it didn't love or a conservative it didn't hate or a fact its editors couldn't spin. The Times generally uses the IHT as its international hit man, reserving its own pages to advance the policies of the Democrat Party. The IHT ran a story entitled "Is Global Rebranding What Israel Needs?" The piece opened by recognizing Israel as the world's pariah state:

[ 03|19|09] McCain's 1st 50 days: How they'd report it
Suppose Sen. John McCain, rather than Sen. Barack Obama, won the presidency but made the same decisions and pursued the same goals to turn around the economy. After more than 50 days in office, the new president, even to some of his supporters, seems overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problems he faces. Though he calls the economy job one, he confounds critics and supporters alike with the most audacious, ideologically driven agenda since the Great Depression, if not in the history of the republic.

[ 03|18|09] Obama: Still a community organizer
Republicans are still awestruck at how Barack Obama was able to get every Democrat in the House and Senate to vote for his stimulus package despite opinion polls showing impressive public opposition. The answer is Obama's use of his years of training in Saul Alinsky-style community organizing combined with 21st-century technology. This converted his successful campaign tools and technology into a political tsunami to pass tremendous spending bills that will saddle us, our children and our grandchildren with incredibly enormous debts.

[ 03|17|09] The Republican Civil War
As if it is not enough that they have been decimated by the Democrats in the past couple of elections, the Republican survivors are now turning their guns on each other. At the heart of these internal battles have been attacks on Rush Limbaugh by Republicans who imagine themselves to be so much more sophisticated because they are so much more in step with the political fashions of the time.

[ 03|11|09] Are 'hope' and 'change' still tax-deductible?
Are you sitting down? Obama plans to pay for his $3.6 trillion spending bill by raising taxes on "the rich." I know, I know ... I was pretty shocked, too. The bad news is, by hiking taxes in a recession, Obama will turn a disaster into a catastrophe. But there's good news, too. The "rich" include most of Obama's biggest supporters!
