In part one I presented what I believe is a picture of John the Baptist’s life and mission that was ordained to come ahead of Jesus but also that his birth, life, his work and death were also a prophecy that has been unfolding for these last 2,000 years.
Listen :
I find it interesting that if the counting of the years since the birth of Jesus is
accurately calculated, then according to some serious students of God’s Word, Jesus was born in 4-3 B.C. and began His ministry in A.D. 27 with His death 3½ years later.
That means John’s ministry began just before that (perhaps in the same year ); isn’t it profoundly interesting that we are soon coming up on exactly 2,000 years since John appeared to do his work with Jesus to follow thereafter? Hmmm?
That could also mean that Elijah and the other witness will appear sometime around out year 2,027 as an immediate counterbalance to the rising of the antichrist. I for one will be watching the events of the next 24 months and beyond with great interest.
Now the point of our previous discussion was that as members of the true church, we have a work to do in preparation for the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth.
If you accept that as a work to do that involves you also, you will need to ready yourself for that work. If you do not accept the commission of God by the Scriptures I will share with you today, you will be failing at one of the biggest reasons for why God planted you in this time-period on purpose (! ); forgive my bluntness but the regret before Jesus will be yours alone to bear if you do not participate in what God has called you to do in these last days.
( † † † )
† 1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up (bind about like with a belt ) the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called (kaleo: to call forth aloud, bid ; from to incite, order, command ) you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
† Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time (rescue from loss ), because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
I remind you of a fact that I have mentioned often over the years of my calling, and that is this: It didn’t just so happen by random chance that you were born on the earth when you were and to whom you were—God chose the time, the place and the parents of your existence (no other fact helped me to forgive and love my parents in spite of their failures than this fact! ).
You and I are here at the end of the age of man’s rule because God wanted us here now. The question for all believers upon the earth today should be a sincere, “Why, Lord, have you put me here in the 21st century in the last days of man’s rule, and for what purposes?” Part of the answers is this:
( † † † )
† Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. . . 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Seeking the kingdom of God first in our individual lives involves looking to God for His will and aligning our will with His.
Sadly, many believers are afraid to ask the question “Lord, why am I here?” because they are selfish or they think He will say, “Sell all you have and go to so-and-so country and preach the Gospel” or “Spend some of your time each week passing out tracts and witnessing on your local streets”, or some other answer that is not something he or she is willing to do.
But there are so many other ways to serve God by what He has given us; things that need to be done as part of the whole effort needed that is part of bringing of lost souls to Jesus.
Our helping to “prepare the way ” can be from a talent or skill that we have, or resources that can be used, or our ability to organize and facilitate a good work, or our money to help others do what they are called to do but need money to reach souls, or our simply being available as a helper of others that are leading an needful effort.
In any event, Jesus instructs all the servants of God to be mindful of and busy about the things of the kingdom of God until He returns based on the following story and resulting parable.
( † † † )
† Luke 19:1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way . 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. 7 And when they saw it , they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. 8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. 9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. 11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy (busy oneself ) till I come. 14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. 15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. 20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: 23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. 25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds .) 26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
Bringing back into focus the theme we are discussing, which is “Preparing the Way ”, I want to suggest to you the various ways in which God may have plans for you to be effective in these ensuing months and short years before He appears.
I remember a few lines in an old movie involving some urgent military preparations. A civilian of little account and no reputation asked the military official in charge, “I want to help, what can I do?” to which the commander replied, “I don’t know, what can you do?” That’s a great question!
We should first have to “want to” to be a part of the last great move of God to save souls, and with the “want to”, ask the Lord what He wants us prepare ourselves to do.
The answer can best be understood by considering what we can -do in the context of helping others in need and showing them the love of Jesus, especially as end-times refugees gather in a God-established safe places of displaced and frightened people.
A 16th century priest said “Minister with your hands before you do with your mouth ,”
And so I ask : Can you cook, clean, or are you a great dishwasher? Do you have a heart for children and their care? Are you a patient teacher? Can you attend to the sick, the infirmed or elderly? Are you an exceptional organizer or administrator or facilitator of a plan? Are you a good peacemaking and at arbitration? Can you garden, build, cut wood or dig holes? Do you know what to do with healing herbs? Can you tend to farm animals that produce eggs or milk or are you able to dress meat animals for food? Do you have electronic expertise and can fix things? Are you a barber or auto mechanic or all-around good helper of others with skills? Do you have experience and know-how in the areas of security, firearms, and hand-to-hand self-defense? Has the Lord blessed you with more income or useful resources than you really need (“build bigger barns” parable) that such good works need? Do you have the boldness to witness to strangers or knock on doors? Are you bold enough in your faith in God and His Word to cast out demons, to raise the dead if the Holy Spirit so directs, and to heal the sick?
Brothers and sisters of the church, are you getting the picture of how many ways we can serve the Lord when literally the devil’s fury breaks loose upon the earth including in our areas also?
As all our normal systems and services begin to disappear while chaos and destruction rise, people are going to become terrified about life and many will begin to look for help and be open to the answers we have.
The Bible has the answers and the chief Answer is Jesus Christ, and for all that will begin to surrender to Him, they will need our love and our help in many of these areas I have just posed to you. What does the Word say to back this up?
( † † † )
† Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. [“Care for the lost and your light will shine in the darkness. ”]
† James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
† 1 Timothy 5:3 Honour widows that are widows indeed. 4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
† Matthew 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
† Acts 6:1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them , and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
† 1 Corinthians 13:1 Though [you ] speak with the tongues of men and of angels [do it with love ] 2 …have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and…have all faith [serve with love ]… 3 And bestow all [your ] goods to feed the poor , and even give [your ] body to be burned [let it be by love ]… [These things and all other acts of service by love are profitable! ] 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
† Matthew 5:44 ...I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven. . .
† Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
† Matthew 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee ? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee ? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee ? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
† Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto [the 70 ] them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
† Luke 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
† Matthew 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
† Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe [and not fear ]; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
At † Luke 10 Jesus appoints and authorizes 70 inexperienced disciples to go into the fields of lost souls with the Gospel message and delegated power to do miracles.
At † Romans 12 He raises up prophets, ministers (servants ), teachers, exhorters, givers of time, resources, or money, He puts in place rulers and administrators to carry out good plans, the Lord raises up many full of mercy and compassion.
At † Ephesians 4 God gives apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds and teachers.
At † 1 Corinthians 12 he adds workers of miracles, gifts of healings, helps, governments and diversities of tongues.
What spiritual gifts and callings, or skills and resources, and others things you just love to do are you willing to lay on the altar of service to God for His purposes, which is not my question but His to you in this season.
That is the question you should ponder all this next week.
One more segment remains to further expose the need ahead of us and why God has called us to Prepare the Way
