THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott
By the help of the Holy Spirit, many years ago I recognized something as a type and shadow in our bibles that had to do with John the Baptizer.
Listen :

There are several things about John that we should notice about him that relate to you and me and the true church today. Of the more obvious that we need to understand is what the Old Testament says that John would do and that is to prepare the way of the Lord, making His paths straight and how that relates to you and me.

I am going to point out several aspects of both John’s life and his message and how they connect to your and my life as followers of Jesus here in the last days before He once again physically in-Person makes Himself seen and known on the earth.

Types and shadows: Known as “typology” such things are pictures or first reflections of someone at some future time to be born or some condition yet to arise. A “type” points forward to a greater event or reality (i.e. the familiar term “a type of Christ”). [It is] Referring to theological concepts where elements in the earlier places and chronological time in the Bible’s record serve as models or the foreshadowing of truths found later in time in the Bible (usually centuries or millennia). A “type” is an example or pattern, while a “shadow” represents the underlying reality that is fulfilled in God’s plan or in Christ.

( )
† Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. 6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

† Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

† John 1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

† Matthew 11:7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet (a foreteller, inspired speaker)? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

These passages are several of the pictures provided by God from the Old Testament of the ministry of John the Baptist who came in the office of Elijah.

But let me share with you a broad view what John’s life also shows us today and how his message is one for the true Church of the living God today.

John’s life is a panoramic view of the New Testament Church, a new covenant people who are to fulfill what the old covenant people were supposed to do but because of disobedience and their sin failed to accomplish.

Please notice the similarities highlighted between the † Exodus and † Peter passages.

( )
† Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure (closely held treasure) unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests (king’s or royal priests), and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

† 1 Peter 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people [today’s meaning of “peculiar”: not ordinary or usual, belonging distinctively to one person, one’s own]; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

How was John’s life from start to finish a broad view of the Church of the New Covenant? If you can and will recognize the part that you are to play (yes, you!), you will be excited to participate in carrying out your mission as part of the chosen, royal, peculiar, praise-offering, and holy end-of-days “team” that God has included you in for His end of the age work. Consider these things about John as establishing him and his mission as a “type” of the Church:
  Consider these things about John
As establishing him and his mission as a “type” of the Church

1. He was conceived and born to a barren woman of some age († Lk 1:7)—the woman Elizabeth a type of barren Israel. Her name is from Hebrew origin Elisheba (el + shebal), the wife of Aaron the High Priest, which name means “God of the Oath”; (Gr. Elisabet); “God keeps His word.”
Your life and mine were born out from a barren and useless worldly life. We are the evidence that indeed, “God keeps His Word” and sent a Savior.
2. John was filled with the Holy Ghost from the beginning of his life († Lk 1:15) just as the infant NT Church was filled at † Acts 2. As a person, John came before Jesus having been born about 6 months ahead of the Son of God.
When we are born into God’s family, we are immediately indwelled by the living Spirit of God and then with a subsequent baptism in the Holy Spirit, when we seek it from the Lord.
3. John went into obscurity during his formative years until his showing to Israel at around age 30. Some believe that John spent many of his years with the Essenes who “separated” themselves from sinful Israel and to whom the Qumran Dead Sea scrolls were believed to have been studied and preserved by.
John needed to be prepared, Jesus spent 30 years being readied, and all Christians need time to be trained in the Word and the ways of God.
4. Later John began declaring his pre-ordained message ahead of Jesus presenting Himself to be baptized and to then begin His ministry. John’s mission was to preach repentance, declare that the Messiah was soon to come, and to baptize those that would believe his message in preparation for the soon arrival of the Anointed One.
In this end of the age we are the ones with the ministry and the message that Jesus is the way, truth, and life and that He is returning very soon.
5. John’s lifestyle was very basic as reflected by what he wore and what we ate. He boldly stood for the righteous and moral ways of God even to the degree that he condemned Herod’s marriage to his brother’s wife.
John made himself separate from the ways of sinful Israel and we are to also from the sinful culture we live in. He wore camel’s hair and ate locusts and wild honey, we should do our best to live in humility by resisting luxuries, needless spending, and by rubbing elbows with no one else but those of the Christian community, except for the public witness about Jesus Christ.
6. For his stand, John was eventually arrested and imprisoned; while in bonds his humanity was revealed by the sending disciples to ask Jesus if He was the true One to come († Matt 11).
All through history believers have been persecuted and many arrested and even executed. In those most extreme circumstances we are to maintain our testimony and resolutely stand on the Word of God and faith in Him no matter the threats. Will questions come or even a crisis of faith? Perhaps, but by reminding ourselves what the Bible says, what Jesus has already done for you and me, what others say to bolster our trust and peace, we can maintain our most certain walk with God no matter how it turns out.
7. Jesus said of John that he came in the spirit of Elijah—that prophet that would literally come at the end of the age with the same mission.
The Bible says that Elijah will return with another witness when the antichrist rises, and he will. He will return in more power than he had while he walked the earth before and his message will be the same as ours should already be: “Jesus Christ is the very Son of Almighty God. Nothing you can do or do to me will stop Him from coming, and those that are not His own by repentance and the new birth will by death end up in Hell at their death and the eternal Lake of Fire 1,000 years later. Repent and believe the Gospel!”
8. John was beheaded by the command of the king († Matt. 14) just like Scriptures tells us in these last days will happen to many Christians.
The Bible reveals that believers will die by beheading and in other ways during the Great Tribulation.

( )
† Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

† Revelation 20: [After Jesus returns to the earth for 1,000 years:] 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

† Hebrews 11:32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; oof David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: 33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: 36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

In this panorama view of John’s life, we can see that his life, and message, his holy stand, and his death by beheading [we can see] that John’s life closely parallels the life, message, the stand we are called to, and the final outcome of the triumphant church of which you and I are made a part.

But is it a mission you are ready for if you will agree to do the part that God has set you in this time-period to do for Him?

If you will agree to participate in it however God has ordained you to, you and I need to conduct ourselves in the remaining time we have together as John the Baptist did.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit, practice separation from the ways and methods of the world, live a humble lifestyle, and be willing to serve God in the ways He has individually equipped us to until Jesus comes or we are killed for our faith in Him.

Again, please pay attention to the highlighted parts of these last two passages.

† Ephesians 3:7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. 8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: [The mission of the church in these last days especially:] 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, 11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: 12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

† Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
