THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott
(2 Corinthians 5:14) ~ (Galatians 6:14) ~ (Colossians 1:18)

Listen :

In our first discussion under this title, I shared that as a new creation having been born-again, we are part of a new and very different culture—a culture of Life and not the present world’s culture of death. The first two differences discussed were that we are part of the Church of the Living God, which is the Body of Christ.
The second difference between these two cultures is that of unconditional love—love for God that surpasses love for all others and anything else, which is idolatry, and love for our Christian brethren, our neighbor (fellow human beings), and even our enemies.

These two areas of our new creature culture give us help in coping with the world that exists outside-of yet side-by-side with the holy aspects that characterize our life on the earth as we wait for our move into the literal realm and Presence of God.

        Culture” involves these things:

Culture : The set of dominate attitudes and behavior that characterize a group or organization...including [that group or organization’s] knowledge, language, beliefs, ordinances and practices, manners and customs, capabilities, values and attitudes, pursuits, and habits of the individuals in the group.

The next essential part of our new culture as Christians and followers of Jesus is that we have a Book that was prepared by God for our needed instruction. We call it the Holy Bible (bible: a comprehensive guide about something) and it is also known as the Word of God, “the ultimate [actually the only guaranteed pure] set of guiding principles governing all areas of life for the people of God”.

Our Holy Bible is not the opinions of men

Our Holy Bible is not the opinions of men but the inspired (God-breathed) Word of our eternal God. In our natural lives we usually pay little or no attention to the manuals provided with things we purchase, even the very expensive things, and such publications warn, explain, tutor, and even help us to troubleshoot failures or defects in the operation of the thing.

Our Holy Bible is these things and so much more and critical to our active and responsible citizenship in the kingdom of God. Our Bible establishes the fact that God is (that He exists) by its prophecies written hundreds and thousands of years before the fact of their fulfillment. It explains to us its value as a true people of God.

As a new creation in all that exists seen and unseen, the Word is a blueprint for what God intended to do, has done, and will yet do that has been 100% accurate. It is timeless, and no matter what others will say, the Bible is inerrant.

If you do not have a Bible, do not read it most regularly, listen to God’s true teachers of it, and adjust your lives to it as understanding comes to your mind, you have a significant chance at failing in your faith by the end of your life and not be welcomed into Heaven. Strong faith comes by hearing the Word of God († Rom. 10:17) and it is the sword of the Spirit against sin and satanic attackers († Eph. 6:10-18).

( )
† Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure. . .

† Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

† Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

† Luke 4:2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God (from Deut. 8:2-3).

† Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering [the Sadducees] said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

† Revelation 22:12 [Jesus said] ... behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. . . 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments [found in the Book], that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

The next aspect of our new culture
is that of repentance and forgiveness.

The world apologizes for nothing, at least for anything that is not in its best interest to do so. In other words, generally the only time a worldling will say “I am sorry” or “Please forgive me” is when there is a benefit for him or her to do so.

Often saying “I am sorry” or asking for forgiveness is only because someone has been caught in his wrong and wants the other person offended to “let bygones be bygones” (forgive me and just forget about it).

As new creatures, any unkindness or uncaring, lacking in love, and many other wrongdoings, and especially sin must be sorrowed over to the point of repenting before God and with the person offended, and in humility asking for forgiveness.

( )
† Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

† 2 Corinthians 7:9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

† Revelation 3:19 [Jesus said] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

† 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

But also consider this as part of our new culture:
Not only are we to sorrow over our sin or offense and seek forgiveness
but we are instructed to forgive others, if we expect God to forgive our sin.

( )
† Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father. . . 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. . .

† Matthew 6:14 . . .For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

† Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. 4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

† Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. . . 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? [Do not miss this next point—it is a real threat for those that will not forgive.] 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

† Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven. . .

Lastly for today, I remind you that as born-again ones, we are members of a new family also—literally the family of our Heavenly Father. In this respect, our Father is God, our eldest Brother is Jesus (also God), and we the redeemed are eternal brothers and sisters. Most in the western churches do not do this but here among us it is customary for us to call each other as Brother So-and-so or Sister So-and-so.

As Christians, we are all siblings in Christ and referring to each other as brother or sister is a reminder of that and it is more than implied in many places in the New Testament. And often the New Testament term “brethren” is not excluding the women of the faith but actually intends to mean them also.

I make no apologies for using these titles with those that God has forgiven, washed clean in the blood of Jesus, and included in the eternal family.

( )
† Matthew 12:46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

† 2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

† 1 Timothy 6:2 And they [slaves, servants] that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they [their masters] are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

† Romans 5:1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: 2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.

† 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

† Ephesians 3:13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height. . .

As an aside to the fact of our brother and sisterhood as true followers of Jesus are the Lord’s commands imposing humility upon the capacities of our individual callings.

People in the church that are more carnal than spiritual grow puffed up in their promotions and titles. The only titles in the Word I read of and see used often are brother, sister, elder, deacon, apostle, prophet, evangelist, shepherd and teacher.

Spiritual designations and all promotions by the Spirit of God
are not to elevate the disciple but to edify the church
and provide the exercise of humility for the servant.

To the degree that I feed the sheep of the Lord’s flock I am a shepherd but I decline from being called “pastor” and prefer to be addressed as Brother Scott and thought of as an elder by the church.

Anyone that gloats or is carnally exalted by what he or she is gifted by the Holy Spirit to do is someone that I sense as yet unfit to minister the Truth.

( )
† Matthew 20:25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

† Matthew 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

† 3 John 1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

† 1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility. . .

† 1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

These discussions are to open your mind and heart to this reality: As born-again ones from Heaven and having the Holy Spirit living within us, we belong to a new society and a unique culture that is at odds with the cultures of our country, our racial roots, and often even our natural family.

Nevertheless, we are to allow our new creature culture to have its intended and perfect influence over us all the days of our remaining lives.

Our discussions under this title will continue next we meet.
