THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott
(1 Corinthians 5:7) ~ (2 Corinthians 6:14) ~ (Revelation 18:1)

Listen :

In part three of this series, we looked closely at how separating yourself from any love you have for the world and its things was a very important part of beginning to overcoming sin in your life.

Before we move into the second area that must be dealt with at the cross for the freedom from sinning, we will refer to just a few more of the bible’s passages written for the benefit of followers of Jesus—passages that reinforce our need to sever all spiritual distractions and adulterous interactions with the world.

( )
† Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted (enticed) of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. . .[Jesus answered these temptations by quoting the Word] 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. 14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

† 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it [often by the knowledge and use of the written Word]. 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

† 1 Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich (increased with goods [possessions possessing them]) fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

It is up to you and with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to look closely at the life you are living and to let go of all things of the world that are spiritually bad for your life as a follower of Jesus Christ. Such things “let go of” or not will come up when you stand before the Lord Jesus at the review of your life and in answer to His question:
“What Did You Do  With  THE LIFE I GAVE YOU  —Let’s See!”
See (1 Corinthians 3:11-17) ~ (Romans 14:10-12) ~ (Hebrews 13:17)
Now as we disconnect from the sources of its temptations to sin, I warn you that we must carefully monitor our daily interactions that the things the world employs to pull us back unto itself (cigarette or marijuana smoke, gaming for more than 20-30 min’s, soft porn/unknown hard porn links, other old habitual draws on us). You and I must be on-guard against the sly and clever attempts to bring us into those bondages again.

Now while being ever-vigilant about the things of the world, we must also address all yet unaddressed issues from within our own thoughts and hearts that lead to sin. The world and the devil are not the biggest temptations to sin—we are pretty good at falling into the seductions of any lingering-flesh’s-longings all on our own.

There is more work to be done in the area of our “sinning no more” and that is in my experience the more difficult effort to be undertaken; it is a work within the soul that also and more-so requires the help of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

In this concluding segment I am going to cover the getting free-of our own internal, self-authored and permission-granting, sinful indulgences that heretofore easily arise from our own usually spontaneous or premeditated reactions to people and situations and our unclean passions.

The sinful nature is like a computer program that never goes into sleep-mode but is always ready to engage itself for what its nature is to do, which, with sin as its result, such programming must be deleted from our being like a malicious computer virus or a Trojan horse that sneaks in and by our sin we suffer the breakdown of our fellowship with God and the peace of our forgiveness.

The old sinful man must die, and for that to happen the lustful and terminally-diseased fleshly part of us must be crucified; just like the Romans did to Jesus for our sins, we need to march our sinful nature to Golgotha and with the hammer and nails of our denial to sin, nail it the cross for its execution. That is what the Bible teaches us must be done!

That is What  The Bible
 Teaches Us  Must Be Done!
( )
† Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

† Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God. . .

† Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

† Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. . . 13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh. . . 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. . . 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. . . 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified (impaled on the cross, exposed to death, self-denied) the flesh with the affections and lusts.

† 2 Timothy 2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer (stay under [the testing], bear, undergo, endure), we shall also reign with him: if we deny (contradict, disavow; † Mark 8:34) him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Did You See  The Connection  ???
Do we see the connection? If we follow Jesus, we must deny ourselves the sins we formerly had been so comfortable with but—but if we do not deny ourselves and bear our cross we deny Him and His purposes to be accomplished in our lives—and that will cost many their inheritance († Galatians. 5:21).

And so I ask you, are the temporary pleasures of your mind or physical body, or the unChristlike attitudes of your heart that are sin worth the forfeiture of many eternal blessings, which include “reigning with Him” († 2 Timothy 2:12)? Not for me!

I point your attention to what Paul wrote there in verse 12: Paul said this “If we suffer”, which is connected to his former statement “if we be dead with Him”; the little word “if” is used both times and represent pivot points, in-deed very real turning points in our walk with the Lord (“if, then, else” computer programming statements).

These two phrases can include other aspects of spiritual truth but have this fact as a part-and-partial application to this entire conversation about dying for to live: If we “recon” ourselves to be dead to sin and alive to Christ, to activate that power to stop sinning we must “suffer” (stay under the testing, bear, endure) under the burden of God’s helpful and needed discipline († Hebrews 12), denying ourselves carnal pleasures, and carrying our individual crosses just like Jesus said we must if we will follow Him as stated at († Mark 8:34). I remind you again of these critical declarations:

I  Remind You Again  Of These  Critical Declarations
( )
† Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. . . 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

† Hebrews 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. . . 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. 12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

“We must die to the old selfish ways and pleasures by saying “No!” to the thought of them when they come up and reassert our commitment to being free from sinning by not allowing those crucified fleshly lusts and behaviors to come down from the cross and live. Do remember what they said to Jesus at († Mark 15:30:) “Save thyself (from your misery), and come down from the cross”.

We must “know” that where God is concerned our sinful nature was historically and factually crucified with Jesus on the cross but that you and I must cooperate to make it also actual to our lives in the here and the now.

We must “know” and then “recon” it to be so for our individual selves, and by our dedication to the things heard in these lessons, receive from the Spirit of God the “rhema” (the “I get it now” understanding) that we have been set free from sin. But this must be coupled with the action of breaking out of that prison!

We must “jail-break” ourselves by denying our sin its ways and affirming our freedom from it by faith as often as it must be done, the power of the blood-stained cross drains-off the life of the sinful man or woman that we once were, if the flesh is crucified on the cross and denied.

Those “the temporary pleasures of your mind or body and the unChristlike attitudes of your heart”? As so many Christians do today, let us not excuse ourselves from sin by refusing to see such things and others as sin:

Regarding the attitudes of the mind and heart
A daily laziness toward the Person and Word of God, lacking personal regret and repentance for sin, unforgiveness and holding aught against another, not loving God above all others and our neighbor as ourselves, being uncaring and uncompassionate, and lacking mercy.

As to the temporary pleasures of your mind or physical body
For the healthy, many sleep more than needed, not being good stewards of your body by its proper care, the world’s music, allowing violent images and unclean language into your mind and heart, forbidden sexual thoughts and imaginations, and the viewing of nudity or sex acts by others, habitual masturbation especially if it mentally involves others that are not your spouse († Matthew 5:27-28). Lying, dishonesty, cheating and stealing, avarice, greed and the love of money and earthly possessions, and all other forms of unwholesome self-gratification and idolatry.

All these things and so many others are sin
All these things and so many others are sin, and without victory over sin, your part of Heaven’s inheritance just might be written out of God’s will and testament for the obedient and worthy children of His family. We must die to our sin problem that we might live—live the most honored life here now and be blessed in the eternal. You can do these things!
( )
† 1 John 4:4 . . . [because] greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

† Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

† Ephesians 3:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, [no such person] hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Also ~ (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) ~ (Galatians 5:19-21) ~ (Revelation 21:7)

† 2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Go your way and “sin no more”
By the Power of the Holy Spirit,
The Word of God and the Cross of Jesus Christ.
