THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott
Listen :

(† Psalm 71:1) In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. 2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape (slip out, be delivered, be carried away safe): incline thine ear unto me, and save me. 3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress. 4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. 5 For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth. 6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee. 7 I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge. 8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day. 9 Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. 10 For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together, 11 Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him. 12 O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help. 13 Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt.

Have you ever said something like this:

“I can’t take it anymore!” or “I give up!” or “This is just more than I can bear” or “That’s it, the last straw, I’m not going to put up with this any longer”?

I don’t recall ever saying that myself but I might have; these are common reactions to the unrelenting troubles that arise against us that we have no control over. When a person reaches this point, what might he or she do?

  Well, depending on the circumstances:

• A person might erupt in rage and lose control of his emotions and say or do things that are later regretted

• One might walk away from a marriage, or quit a job, or turn his back on some other on-going situation that has required a lot of patience—until now

• A man will make a dramatic change in his life’s circumstances or conditions that later would prove to have been too hasty and unwise, even destructive

• In our tomorrows, many will give up on God and resort to other means of help or comfort in the continuing face of trouble or need

• Not a few having become tired of waiting on God for help or under the coaxing of the government will resort to “every man for himself” by betraying neighbors, fellow believers, and even family members

Today I am going to encourage you to have faith in what God has said in His Word about trusting Him in times of great disappointment and discouragement, testing, losses, legitimate need, betrayals, abandonment, and suffering of all kinds.

In most places today, members of the church are lacking in faith to believe what God has said in His Word or through His true prophets, preachers and teachers. It will not take much at all for many Christians to “walk away, lose control, make unwise decisions, give up on God, and betray others for food or favor” in deference to the world.

Why are many that today believe they are
followers of Jesus in such a vulnerable faith-state?

• They are not students of the Word of God, many do not sit under God-called and anointed preachers and teachers of the Truth nor heed what they hear if they do

• Many have no personal relationship with the Lord Jesus and the eternal Father—how can anyone come to trust someone that they do not spend regular time with—it is not possible

• Many have faith in the good times to believe that they will go to Heaven but have not submitted to the Spirit-supervised faith training needed to seek the Lord and rely on Him in the bad times

• Some believers have a back-up plan for many kinds of trouble that comforts them and negates the need to go to God for guidance or solutions (i.e. borrow money, sell possessions, look to parents for help, submit to extreme medical help, rely on one’s guns and ammo, etc.)

If we participate with God’s blueprint for our individual lives, we learn critical things that bypass the controls of the carnal mind—things that are impressed upon our heart, settle-in and embolden our spirit with believing power; things like these:

( † † † )
† Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

† Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have († 1 Tim. 6:8): for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee († Josh. 1:5), († Is. 43:2). 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me († Ps. 56:11 & 118:6), († Is. 41:10).

† Philippians 4:10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

I am genuinely thankful to God for the hardness He has exposed me to over the last 11 years since 2015. Until things dramatically changed for me and my wife, at that point we were blessed, we were very comfortable in our possessions and health and modest successes, and we were useful to God in serving others.

We would have gone to Heaven had we died but our faith had not been tested by the absence of these good things.

We didn’t know the truth of One of God’s Guarantees involving trouble that would strip away the good things I just mentioned. The Lord needed us to experience, learn, and to conform our faith to a much higher standard of belief and practice, and trust and patience.

Whether a Christian or not, what does a man do when he
is faced with a situation that he can see no way out of?

• He gives up and lets the chips fall where they may, which total surrender often leads to the collapse of all that had been his normal life

• He and his trouble becomes a burden for his parents or adult siblings

• He becomes frantic and in desperation looks for a solution considering things that in normal circumstances would be considered very risky or extreme—or even illegal

• In rarer situations, a man literally runs away and abandons everyone and everything, leaving behind the trouble for his family to cope with

• OR—he has the proverbial “Come to Jesus moment” and calls out to God for the salvation of his soul (rescue, deliverance, healing) and the help of God in such a time of catastrophic trouble—which God may have permitted for that very thing to happen

I do not believe that everyone that becomes a Christian is automatically born-again with a strong and mature faith and trust in God; for forgiveness and the promise of eternal life, yes, but he is not yet able to automatically trust God fully in any circumstance.

That level of faith is a Divine work-in-progress

No, that level of faith is a Divine work-in-progress that happens for the believer if: He or she will read God’s Word with purpose daily, [if] the man or woman will develop a relationship with the Lord through pray, praise and worship, [and if] the believer will cooperate with God when He (God) arranges for opportunities to strengthen or later test his or her faith in God. If these needed discipleship practices are not part of the disciple’s life, then faith beyond being forgiven and the hope of Heaven at death will not mature and grow strong.

Faith requires knowledge of the Word, regular fellowship with the One Who is eternal and mighty and does all things well. And oftentimes there are unscheduled trips to the Lord’s spiritual gym to learn the discipline of obedience and for faith’s needed strength-training for trusting God always!

As to obedience, faith, and patience (that is patience with God)—we need perfecting, a completing work by God’s Spirit. You’ve heard these and other pertinent Holy Scriptures here regularly!

( † † † )
† Hebrews 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he [Jesus] had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him [His Father] that was able to save him from death (Lk 22:41-44), and was heard in that he feared (reverent); 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience (submission) by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect (complete), he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him...

† Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

† Luke 18:1 And he [Jesus] spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint (the parable of the unjust judge). . . 7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

† James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

For our tomorrows and their prophesied troubles, you and I must, must, must have an undefeatable and indomitable faith that God knows all things, He is in control, nothing is impossible for Him, that He loves you with an everlasting love, and that He can be trusted to fix them or lead you through great hardships and personal losses.

Here's a few Scriptures that you must know, believe and trust when something blows up in your face in your tomorrows:

( † † † )
† 1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation (a putting to the proof, an experience of evil, adversity, a trial—from* to test, entice, tempt) taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted* (tested, enticed, disciplined) above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape [such as running through a room that is on fire in order to get to the exterior door and safety!], that ye may be able to bear (bear from underneath, undergo, endure) it. 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry [or—perhaps in the case where you either trust God or you resort to an idolatrous worldly solution for instant relief].

† Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. [And because the Lord does “upholdeth him with His hand”, we can be:]

† 2 Corinthians 4:8 …troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus [that His wisdom and power, protection, provisions and deliverance] might be made manifest in our body.

† 2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure (think well of, be willing to endure them, look upon them as good for me) [How? I do not resist them or complain against them or accuse God of letting me down] in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Now God will do His part in the things we have read through today if—we will allow Him to do the work within us needed to build trust in Him to do his part. Part of the work and goal the Word and the Spirit is to prepare us to be equipped to do something the Bible has much to say about: To endure, to be patient by our faith.

Do you believe it of yourself today—that you are developed enough in your faith to lose your health, or your spouse or parents, eventually lose your job or all your retirement income, and even your home and all you’ve worked to provide for yourself; are you yet strong enough in your trust of God to not be shaken by your life possibly being broken into pieces and scattered all over the ground that was your good life?

Are you ready to stay true to your faith in God and endure to the end and be saved?

Before you boldly think to yourself, “I am”,
I urge you to be rather bold enough to ask God if you are
!

( † † † )
† 1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

† Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

† Matthew 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure (bear the trials, persevere) unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Regarding One of God’s Guarantees ...

Regarding one of God’s guarantees on this subject, there’s more to be imparted to you in our next meeting together. I must plainly say something that will be hard for you to hear: The pathway to a mature and strong faith in God and His Word includes many increasingly difficult and very uncomfortable circumstances—but they must be recognized for their need and value and allowed to do the faith-strengthening work they are ordained to accomplish in your life.
