(† Psalm 33:1) Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely (beautiful; from at home) for the upright. 2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. 4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. 5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. . . 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. 15 He fashioneth (squeezes into shape, mouldeth as a potter) their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
(† Psalm 107:8) Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. . . 19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. 20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. 21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving (todah: adoration, a choir of worshippers), and declare his works with rejoicing. . . 43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things [of this psalm], even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

In the six weeks of discussions under the title The Cross before the Crown you heard about a little word from the Word that is very instructive. That tiny word was “yet” and I shared with you how that a key to staying sane, maintaining peace, and finding comfort in the face of a real hardship was to praise the Lord in the face of hardship.
You were given many Scriptures that substantiate that practice of the wise and experienced people of God. Yet—I must say that unless you are self-trained to praise the Lord and offer worship before Him in the everyday calm beatings of your heart, you will not have it in you to praise Him in spite of significant trouble.
In other words, if you are not used to sincerely praising the Lord in your everyday routines when things are not troublesome or stressful, you will not praise the Lord when you are hit in the face with the 2 X 4 of trouble.

This week and next, let me put the importance of praise
and associated worship in a different light:
There are two things that draws the attention of God upon your life more than any other spiritual disciplines you practice: (1.) Declaring the blood of Jesus over your life and (2.) your sincere praise of our God and Savior.

Praise: The expression of approval, commendation, or admiration. A form of social interaction expressing recognition or admiration. The extolling or exaltation of God. To laud (to praise highly, glorify). To extol (to place on high, lift up; to elevate, magnify). To glorify (to confer honor and distinction upon; to elevate to power and significance).

† Psalm 119:164 Seven times a day do I praise thee (halal: shine, make a show, to boast, celebrate) because of thy righteous judgments.
† Psalm 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise (from halal, tehilla: laud in hymn) shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make her boast (halal) in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt (lift up, make high) his name together.
† Psalm 35:28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise (tehilla: laud in hymn) all the day long.
† Psalm 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise (yada: use the extended hands to revere or worship) him for the help of his countenance.
The next passage is praise without using the word:

† 2 Corinthians 4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet (but) not distressed; we are perplexed, but (yet) not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but (yet) not forsaken; cast down, but (yet) not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
† Habakkuk 3:17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy (spin around, be glad) in the God of my salvation. 19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet [on the rocky, steep hillsides of life], and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

As you will come to know today, the people that truly know their God praise Him regularly throughout their day and no matter how the day is going.
“Why(!?),” you ask. What are some reasons that I should open my mouth and praise the Lord even when I do not feel like it or I feel it is disingenuous or why especially in the midst of some trouble?

Here Are Seven Reasons:

1. Sincere praise of anyone is the acknowledgement that that person does something well, and this is something the Word says about the Lord (Mk 7:37) and by faith we believe that about God and therefore, we laud and extol Him who is perfect in all His ways (Deut. 32:4, Matt. 5:48, James 1:17).
2. Once you have trained yourself to often praise the Lord, maybe at first praising Him under your breath by faith because He deserves it, but once your spirit is free to praise Him it is good and frequent response in maintaining fellowship with the eternal God. It is the conscious acknowledgement that God is ever-with you and will never forsake you.
3. At times, praise should be a rehearsal or review before Him of what He has done for you when you praise and thank the Lord for saving you, forgiving you often, watching over you, and blessing your life daily.
4. It can also be praise for what He continues to do for you day-by-day, and especially for the things you don’t even know about that have delivered you from evil (Matt. 6:13).
5. In my praise unto God, I thank Him for His Spirit within me, for His mercy and grace, and for His love, protection and provisions given daily. Praise Him for what He has given you and what He has allowed you to keep over time, and don’t be afraid to speak of those things more than once throughout the years.
6. I remember to thank and praise Him when my body recovers from sickness or an injury or some disease—I am wonderfully made! Thank you, Lord!
7. And how about what He has promised for His true children about eternity—isn’t that a thing to look forward to and offer Him praise and advance thanksgiving in advance?

† Psalm 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright (puts [prioritizes] his actions or the course of life right) will I shew the salvation of God.
† Psalm 63:3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise (shabah: address in a loud tone) thee. 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
† Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise (tehilla: laud in hymn): be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
† Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
† Psalm 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.
† Revelation 19:5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia (hallelouia [from Hebrew ‘halal’ + ‘Yahh’]: praise ye Jah, an adoring exclamation): for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him. . .

Our praise of God is done in several ways:
We praise Him with our voice as sometimes in a whisper or out loud or even quite loud, [we praise Him] with our eyes looking upward, in our songs, with our hands outstretched, on our knees in humility, and if filled with His Holy Spirit during our private fellowship time before Him, we praise Him with an energetic heavenly language.

† Psalm 60:30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. † Psalm 104:33 I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.
† Psalm 118:28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.
† Psalm 145:1 I will extol (raise up, exalt) thee, my God, O king; and I will bless (to kneel as an act of adoration) thy name for ever and ever. 2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever (for eternity).
† Hebrews 13:13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. 14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. 15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
† Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. . . 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 11 . . . we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

There is an especially ripe time to praise our God during times when our physical enemies have gathered in overwhelming numbers against us, and especially when they have surrounded us (The general after seeing his command was completely surrounded declared: “For the first time since this war began, we can now attack in any direction”).

And we even praise Him when it is against the laws of men
And we even praise Him when it is against the laws of men to acknowledge the eternal God and our Savior. You should prepare yourself for this also because we will have opportunities to practice praise during these very conditions in our tomorrows!

Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. . .
† Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
† Acts 16:23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

Do you hope for the eternal God and our Savior to have respect unto your life—to not just save you but to have pleasure in how you are living your life before Him?
Except for proclaiming the victory of the shed blood of Jesus, praise and worship draws the attention of God more upon your life than any other spiritual discipline you practice.
If the acts of praise are absent or at least still foreign to your life since becoming a Christian, I urge you to begin this week to train your mind and heart in praiseful thoughts and then by spoken words to God.
It is the way of a true believer, If Only We Would!

Praise ye the LORD.
