THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott

[ Food for the Spirit and the Soul ]

I believe the present-day King James Version Holy Bible to be the inerrant (error-free) inspired Word of Almighty God and literally the only perfect physical gift provided by Heaven that is on the earth today (not the "New KJV").

Listen :

When you read it, live it, and quote it you are using the most valuable tangible device available to mankind and one that has been provided by our Creator. Having said these things, you should understand that each word from its original language as found in the Hebrew Tenakh (OT) and the Greek Textus Receptus (NT) are intended to be there by God who inspired them to be written and passed down to us throughout the ages.
Although many of those words can be difficult to accurately bring into the English language, and some of words no longer used in our day, with study and reflection we can come to understand what God intends for us to know as truth from the Holy Bible. One of our text passages is this:
( )
† 1 Thessalonians 5:6 —let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. . . 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are talking about our need for a consistent spiritual diet in order to heighten our awareness of how important it is to pay attention to the two parts of our being that live beyond this life—the spirit and its soul.

𝕋herefore, with regard to these discussions:

Therefore, with regard to these discussions, the words spirit, soul, and body are not at all interchangeable but have separate and distinct meanings while yet being closely associated to each other in the reality of what they mean.

At the death of the human body, our spirit, which is the life given to us by God, and our mind especially, the most powerful of the 3 parts of our soul, will slip into eternity both conscious and aware of all things, including our past life on the earth.

Let’s consult the Word and see the importance of our spirit and its soul, our mind, emotions and will.

( )
† Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed (puffed, kindled) into his nostrils the breath (spirit, inspiration [God-breathed]) of life (quicken[ing]); and man became a living soul (breathing creature, person). [The “breath of life” imparted by God to the body He created brings into existence a sentient being; a mind for thinking, emotions for feeling and expressing, and a free-will. The soul is born by the body having been given the spirit, the life from God.]

† Isaiah 26:9 With my soul [my mind, emotions, and will] have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me [that life which God gave] will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

† Luke 23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend (present, deposit [surrender, release]) my spirit (breath): and having said thus, he gave up the ghost (Gr. ek-pneo: expire [to give up the breath (of life)] which takes with it the soul).

† Acts 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit (breath [the life you gave me as the eternally continuing ‘me’]). 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

† Matthew 27: [To emphasize how vital our renewed mind is, Jesus gives insight:] 35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind [kardia/heart: thoughts and feelings (mind), psyche/soul: mind/intellect/imagination, dianoia/mind: deep thought/ understanding. This is why we must have our mind renewed or we cannot love God as He desires we do. These 3 words all have the mind involved in loving God truly and deeply.].

What is the relationship between the spirit and the soul? From what I have gleaned by how the Scriptures treat the words spirit and soul, I see the soul, which lives-on in eternity as an integrated part of the spirit God gave you and me, as being like a living book of blank pages that comes into existence once each person is conceived in the womb.

What happens in each life is not only recorded in those pages that is the conscious and unconscious “mind” of the soul but that book is also the chief reference source of what has happened that effects a person’s thoughts and decisions, which shapes and future-influences the man or woman for good or evil all the days of his or her life.

𝕆ur minds must be renewed :

Our minds must be renewed in order to change all our wrong perspectives and inclinations—and that newness reaches across to the emotions and the willingness of the man or woman to go God’s way.
In this example, the metaphorical book that is the soul is an integrated part of the human spirit from birth, which (book of experiences, thoughts, emotions and self-will) is a source of trouble for us when trying to live for God after we are born again († Heb. 4:12).

You see, the human spirit of every human being is not completely dead and without any influence in each life. Because of sin, the human spirit at birth is just dead to its Creator, the Giver of that life.

It is by the fallen spirit of a man or woman that extremely evil and forbidden things are possible, such as the various supernatural activities people seemingly can do, including out-of-body experiences, astral travel, and some people with uncanny intuition, such as fortune telling, which many or may not be with the help of demons.

Another part to our understanding is that our human body puts our mind, emotions and will (soul) in touch with this physical realm by our five senses. As you heard in part one, once we are born again from above our mind must begin a transformation process to develop what Paul called “the new man” or in another place the “new creature” that you and I have become by the new birth.

𝕆ur mind must be renovated:

Our mind must be renovated down to the very foundation of what it had become as a partner to the passions of the body, a symbiotic relationship that grew strong over our individual lives in this world.
That renewal (renovation) only happens by the person reading God’s Word, thinking on it, and letting it change and regulate our thoughts and ways; this is a critical part of the spiritual diet we must provide ourselves in order that we to begin to have the “mind of Christ” († 1 Cor. 2:16).

As we intentionally ingest the Word of God, our mind is “fed” a proper diet (in a fashion) and little-by-little undergoes the necessary renewing desired by God and our Savior, if we will submit to it. These meal times at God’s Word are also part of the diet needed by our regenerated human spirit to provide what it needs to be used by God as a source of His guidance, for the gifts of the Holy Spirit († 1 Cor. 12), and as the source of the blossoming of the fruit of the Spirit († Gal. 5).

The Word of God is spiritual and must be made available daily to our mind and our spirit or we will remain developmentally disabled as a Christian, indeed (in a sense) spiritually backward, even retarded.

( )
† Matthew 4:4 But he [Jesus] answered [the devil] and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone (only), but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

† John 6: [Jesus said:] 63 It is the spirit [your and my regenerated spirit/the life from God] that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit [spiritual food], and they are life.

† Psalm 23:3 He restoreth (turns back) my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

† Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit [implications involving the protection of the spirit from the corruption of the soul while the mind is being renewed], and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart [which includes the mind].

Just as our physical bodies need to be sustained with water and food so does our regenerated (indeed “resurrected” from death) human spirit and the mind of our soul [fed] with what God has provided us for our spirit and soul as we live in this present human body.

𝕋hese earthly human bodies are fragile :

These earthly human bodies are fragile and temporary but our spirit and soul are eternal; once born again, how much more do you and I need to see-after the needs of our minds and our human spirits—the very life that God has given us?
The fallen order of our existence is the body first, then the soul, and spirit at the bottom of all considerations with the body and soul doing whatever they desire—in the Bible this relationship is called “the flesh, the carnal, or the worldly” by the Apostle Paul and must to be defeated at the cross.

The Divine order of our existence was originally, and once born again is to become spirit first, soul, and the body at the bottom with the actions of our lives flowing from the wisdom and guidance from our spirit (the life restored by God), understood by the soul, and physical actions accomplished through the human body, as the apostle wrote in † Thessalonians 5.

Put another way, the human body is the servant of the soul and the spirit (the body is like a glove, the soul like the fingers in the glove, and our spirit issuing guidance—like the instructions that flow from the human brain to the body’s muscles of sorts). The soul (who we are and have become throughout our lives) belongs to the spirit by the power of its life—the life that is given by the Creator.

Your and my spirit is the life that God gave us, and the soul is the awareness of being alive and the accumulation of our every day’s experiences (like in the book I described) as the result of the breath of life—the human spirit. As created, just as our body connects us to this physical world, our spirit is to put our mind, emotions and willingness in touch with God and His realm.

It is from our regenerated spirit, which now is alive again by the resurrected life of Christ, that we perceive the initial instinct from our spirit for our minds and will to think or not think, say or not, or do or not do certain actions, if we have grown disciplined enough to recognize such guidance and carry it out.

It is from our spirit that we are inspired to sincerely and in humility and thanksgiving think and speak praise and worship before God; these things from the unrenewed mind on its own are unrecognized by God as works of the flesh. That is why Jesus said at † John 4 that the Father “seeks those that worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

Again, our active spirit is the life God has given us but it needs certain things to keep it healthy and able to do what God intends for it to do while we especially live in this present sinful environment. A fuller understanding of the spiritual diet needed by our spirit and our mind will be covered in part 3 and the conclusion of these discussions.

𝕄eanwhile, here is an ultra-critical point of understanding:

Meanwhile, here is an ultra-critical point of understanding: Our mind is to rule over our emotions and our will, and our regenerated human spirit, which is eternal and now indwelt by God’s Spirit, is to supervise our minds in all things consequential.
In this way, what we think, plan, say and do, or refrain from doing are under the guidance of the Divinely inspired gift of life that God has given us at our conception but has been restored to fellowship with Him once we surrender (really and truly surrender) to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

As we are a 3-part being, here are some examples of the superiority and the priority of the human spirit in our relationship with our God and Creator:

( )
† Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

† Romans 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

† Ecclesiastes 12: [Solomon speaking of death:] 5when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: 6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. 7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit (Heb. ruah: breath, life) shall return unto God who gave it. [As Solomon looked back over all he had accomplished and even the good things he had experienced in his human life—he says this:] 8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

† Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit (pneuma: life): and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. (Ps. 31:5, David)

As a result of sin, the things of this life and its earthly plane of existence must die († Gen. 2:17); we understand that is for our earthly bodies but there is an end for all things that have been physically built and every man-made religious system and governing structure.

The sin on this present earth and its heavens rendered them also temporary and they will continue to decay until their death, and are even now in the last thousand or-so years of this present iteration of the planet and its heavens existence.

This present earth will die according to † 2 Peter 3 and † Rev. 20 and it, too, will be resurrected (in a fashion) as a new heavens and earth according to † Rev. 21:1.

Only the man and woman that has been born again and living according to the precepts of a life in Christ and only the God-created natural elements that have been purified with fire and remade will enter eternity future in the most glorious of forms and fashion.

( )
† 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless [those that have been born again and lived according to the precepts of a life in Christ!].

† Mark 14: [Do remember what Jesus said to His sleepy disciples:] 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
