| “OPEN DOORS AND SPIRITUAL GAPS” {#2}

There is an old saying that declares, “Ignorance is bliss”, and on the subject of Open Doors and Spiritual Gaps that we are now addressing, ignorance is anything but bliss.

The phrase “ignorance is bliss” is very near to being an oxymoron, which are two words put together that juxtapose each other, that is to say that they have opposite meanings like “bittersweet” or “deafening silence”.

For the purposes of understanding why we are delving into the area of demonic trouble in one’s life, which is to provide some foundation about recognizing how they get access to our lives in an active way, we’ll start with defining what ignorance and bliss mean because I think that will be a benefit to you as it relates to understanding these spiritual matters and not be ignorant of them.

“Ignorance” is “the condition of being unaware, uninformed, or uneducated.

Although not always, ignorance often involves a willful neglect or refusal to acquire knowledge which one may acquire and is his duty to have.” The word “bliss” simply means “complete or perfect happiness”.
Therefore, the phrase “ignorance is bliss” declares that not knowing about things that are important to know brings “complete happiness” or stated more succinctly: Being uneducated is a really good thing if you want to be happy—how absurd!

I often wonder how this thing or that is actually made—how is it done(?);

I can be ignorant (unaware) about how things are made and that won’t necessarily hurt me (shoes, toothpicks, toilet paper or screws). But what about being uninformed (ignorant) about what is in the food that I eat or the beverage that I drink—things that I am “perfectly happy” to include in my diet?
These days highly processed foods contain genetically modified components, carcinogenic (harmful) dyes and preservatives, and some even with elements from aborted fetal tissue to help maintain flavor (although this is repeatedly denied). Do I continue to purchase and consume things like these? Not if I am smart, no!
We are also informed that “Ignorance of the law that we broke is no excuse” as you or I are fined or go to jail for breaking a law that we were unaware of. Ignorance is not bliss—it is costly and even dangerous—especially spiritual ignorance; and that of the spiritual enemies warring against us.

On this subject, there is another old saying that says this:
“If you think education is expensive, consider the cost of ignorance!”

I say, if you think acquiring spiritual knowledge and experience takes too much time and effort, your happiness with spiritual ignorance is at the expense of peace and victory (in the here and now) and will likely cost believers some joy on the day many stand before Jesus in the review of their lives.

When we are born-again from Heaven, there comes upon us certain expectations by God, expectations that He has the every right to require having by His mercy and grace redeemed us through Jesus from the slavery of sin and an eternity of separation from Him. If we fail to embrace and pursue what He requires of us, we invite a considerable risk of failing in our faith and becoming again lost in our sin and back on the road to destruction.
The briefest statement of what is required of us is to not fail to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, become a lifelong student of God’s Word, and to stop sinning. If we will diligently begin there and let the Word have its way as we shed our sinful ways, all other things that we need to come to know and need to happen to us will (by our obedience) for the most part take care of themselves under the careful supervision of the Holy Spirit.

Open doors and spiritual gaps will be handled by the Lord
when we walk in full obedience and always closely to His side.

When we are still lost in our sin the devil and his ilk don’t have to work at causing us to fail because we are already lost. However, because they want a living biological home to occupy, demon entities look for open doors in any person that has given them the legal right to at least attach to that life externally or worse, to occupy some internal component of the body or soul of the man or woman.
But once we are born-again, they are especially mission-directed to look for and take advantage of any doors or gaps in Christian lives to infiltrate and work additional evil purposes to cause us to fail in our faith. We must recognize what those doors are and close all entry ways and also fill-in the gaps that will lead to the activity against us that is spiritually dangerous.

There are two considerations about “open doors”
that Christians should pay attention to:

1. Sinful doors that we opened before becoming a follower of Jesus—doors that some Christians never close by renouncing those sins, removing physical things, sincere repentance, being forgiven, cleansed of that sin(s), and those doors being closed shut. These are things such as alcohol or drug abuse, deceptive practices, hatred, violence or rage, sexual sins (homosexuality, fornication, pornography, voyeurism, habitual masturbation [† Matthew 5:28], bestiality), occultist devices and practices (pagan jewelry, witchcraft, Ouija board, fortune telling, séances, charms, astrology, wiccan or new age books, etc.) [† Acts 19:18-20, Ephesus].
Then there are the things people take into their homes that are cursed and are accompanied by or become an entryway for evil spirits: Sexual magazines, (today) online porn websites, Native American spirit catchers, Medicine man/Shaman headdresses, masks, tools or sacrificial weapons, statues of Buddha, Hindu gods, Canaanite gods, human skulls and bones, etc. If these practices or artifacts had not already brought demonic influence and activity into the unbeliever’s life, they most certainly will once a man has become a Christian if these things are not stopped or such artifacts destroyed immediately.
For the Christian that takes the right steps to close such doors but seems to continue to have a recurring issue with them, he or she should take the additional step in Jesus Name of rebuking and casting out the demon(s) that are likely behind the regrettable struggle the believer is having in themselves or for any trouble operating in their homes (you are authorized!); if needed, ask for the help of a knowledgeable and mature Christian leader—there is no shame in needing help when dealing with such situations—such victories over them glorifies God. Once the issue(s) have been properly dealt with, the believer should by a prayer of faith seal those now closed doors in the blood of Jesus.
2. There are also demonic openings we can cause in our lives after we become a Christian, which include any of the ones I just named but also getting involved with things like these give opportunities to the demonic realm: Becoming greedy, a consuming envy or jealousy of another, backbiting, gossip, and tale bearing, infatuation with someone that is not your spouse, hatred (deserves another mention [† 1 John 3:15]), partying with the world, addicted to extremely violent or demonic-themed movies, video games or music, X-rated viewing material, turning to illegal or excessive drugs or given to drunkenness for relief from mental, emotional or physical pain, extreme terror, serial marriages, dabbling with the occult, false spiritual teaching in some churches, transference of evil spirits by the unwise laying on of hands [† 1 Timothy 5:22], refusing to forgive, and refusing to repent of sin.
One other thing that I recently learned of (by the exorcist I mentioned) that can cause trouble in one’s home is keeping the cremated remains of family members in open view in the home. If not properly buried at a cemetery or placed in a columbarium, the urn should be at least stored out-of-sight and in an out-of-the-way place. Otherwise, the visible presence of the deceased’s remains can cause emotional, mental and even spiritual pain, which can (and has) lead to spiritual trouble—both in family members and in the home.

These are some of the ways and the physical things that open doors to the evil spiritual realm for non-Christians and Christians alike. These are troubles that you need to avoid or if you are aware of them presently in your life or home rid yourself of the causes.
Such symptoms of trouble in the home brought on by unclean spirits includes arguments and tension, continual anger, unforgiveness, a lack of sorrow and needed repentance for wrongdoing and sin, sickness or disease, nightmares, vivid sexual dreams, fear, depression, laziness toward God, doubts and unbelief about God and His Word, serious marital disagreements, family squabbles, and disobedience in the children.
Can you see how evil spirits can be behind situations that we think are just issues between couples or family members in the home? We need to get rid of anything that can permit demonic activity against your person or in your home; the Ephesians did and were blessed!

† Acts 19:18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19 Many of them also which used curious arts (magic) brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

As to “spiritual gaps”—this should be understood as something in a Christian’s life that is “a break in a barrier serving as a line of defense (our spiritual protection), an opening by which something (evil) can enter through, or a breach [a security vulnerability – our being spiritually hacked], an empty or vacant (spiritual) space” in the life of a Christian. The Lord Jesus gives us insight into this problem by these two parables:

† Matthew 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not [and does not seek understanding], then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself [he does not spiritual grow in the practice of what he heard], but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word [these things mock and overrule faith and the Word], and he becometh unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
† Matthew 12:43 When the unclean (impure meaning daemonic) spirit (demon) is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty (vacant, owner on [spiritual] holiday), swept (by broom), and garnished (put in proper order, decorated, adorned). 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. . .

By what the Master taught us in these parables, as well as other things we are to learn in the Word (if we will read it and we heed the Lord’s true teachers), we see we can fail to close the spiritual gaps that exist once we are born-again or sometime later in our lives when we are not ignorant, we do things or we don’t do things that creates a gap in the protections we can have against the attacks of the evil spirits when we don’t close the gaps.
These are things that a lack-of or failure to take care-of the spiritual business about such issues lead to gaps that the enemy can slip through into our lives and our homes to do serious damage—gaps such as these: No knowledge and use of God and His written Word—or very little knowledge and not caring about it (Eve didn’t accurately know what God had said) [other gaps are] weak faith, disobedience, pride and envy, lacking the power and intuition of a Spirit-filled life, no prayer life, no personal praise and worship of God († John 4:23-24), holding unforgiveness, grudges, or revenge, unrepented sin, and being deceived about spiritual matters.

The exorcist said that “The demonic does not need an
official invitation [to enter into a life], just a spiritual gap.”

Such entry into our lives and homes usually only cause issues that are unrecognized as the work of unclean spirits but things can always get worse while we blame someone else and do not consider a spiritual source that needs to be dealt with.
For any of the things I have listed that can bring trouble by the hand of either human or demonic causes—there are remedies. If troublesome things originate solely from the human person, the Holy Spirit, the Word, and if needed, maybe help from others can bring freedom, healing and peace.
For trouble that comes from our spiritual enemies, the help against them includes prayer for wisdom, getting rid of all evil practices and cursed artifacts, filling any spiritual gaps in your life and home, identifying the spirit(s) behind trouble and casting it-or-them out of your life and home, repenting and asking for forgiveness of others and of God, and if needing help (don’t be embarrassed to ask!), seek out mature believers that know the Word and how to pray for assistance in your dealings with evil entities affecting your life.

Selah—as the psalmist says. Pause and reflect a long time on these things!
