THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott         As we conclude these discussions on Our “New Creature” Culture today, I remind you that we are each called to recognize that we are made new at extreme levels by our new birth.
Listen :

We are enjoined by Divine order to divorce ourselves from all old corrupt ways and be devoted to all the elements of the new culture we are adopted into.

In a different approach to what that means, we will look at the words that define a “culture” in the light of God’s Word as it relates to “all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). ⤦⤦⤦

( )
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things (original) are passed away; behold, all things are become new (caused to be/generated + fresh).

† Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world [think “old, (intercourse with the) former culture”] is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

[This should not just be an interesting term yet easily passed over. We need to understand
what it is to mean to us for it to become fully active in our Christian lives, “if we will.”
]

† Deuteronomy 7: [And consider this as a type and shadow of the church:] 6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

† Acts 6: [And one obscure example of Christians having to face their new creature culture:] 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

A Culture is : The set of dominate attitudes and behavior that characterize a group or organization...including [that group or organization’s] knowledge, language, beliefs, ordinances and practices, manners and customs, capabilities, values and attitudes, pursuits, and habits of the individuals in the group.
Summarily declared: As ones made a new living being, yet still temporarily living in the old culture, we are each members of the Church, the Body of Christ and have become His hands, feet, and mouth on the earth today.

We are commanded to love without conditions

We are commanded to love without conditions, to read and live by the Book (the Holy Bible), to stop our sin and to repent when we have sinned and to forgive others that have sinned against us.

We are members of a new forever family and must in love respect each other as brothers and sisters with no prejudice or haughtiness, no matter each other’s past, or skin color, one’s newness to the family of God or anyone’s promotion to higher service by the Spirit of God.

We are given gifts by the Holy Spirit that are to build up and serve one another but in sincere humility. We are taught in God’s Word that one of the key principles of His kingdom is that of sowing and reaping—being compassionate and merciful and generous in our giving practices involving our time, skills and money; we don’t do these things to get for ourselves but we are promised blessing as the fruit of our obedience and love.

As true followers of Jesus, we have in reality become as Peter points out “alien residents living in a foreign land” (strangers and pilgrims). His declaration by the Spirit is further proof that we are born-again as new creatures and a whole new people as he stated here:

( )
† 1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation (“kin” [family member related by same genetics], offspring, born [from root meaning caused to be, newly generated as 1 Peter 5:17 “become”]), a royal priesthood, an holy nation (people, race), a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers (alien resident, foreigner) and pilgrims (resident foreigner), abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. . .
And so according to its definition, we have several aspects of our new Christian culture that we must recognize, allow “to dominate our attitudes and behaviors” and thereby flow in day-by-day.

As culture is defined, the first component is that of “knowledge” that is uniquely ours, which is drawn from the Word of God. We are to come to know God and He us; to know of His history, power and promises.

If we do not advance in our knowledge of God and His ways we remain spiritual babies and our growth in kingdom-ways is stunted and mutates, perhaps altering our beliefs into a terrible self-directed and confusing spiritual concoction that can compromise our faith.

Examples of our new culture’s knowledge:

( )
† 2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge (from being fully acquainted with) of God, and of Jesus our Lord. . .

† 1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications (companionships) corrupt good manners (moral habits of our new culture). 34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge (ignorance about) of God: I speak this to your shame.

† 2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. . .

Moving on—we have a “language” that sets apart true Christians but does involve offensive terms to the world such as “being saved, born-again, prayer, praise, the Blood of Jesus, the Name of Jesus, [the words:] hallelujah, blessing, brother and sister, the Word of God, and tongues (heavenly languages), to name a few.
( )
† Matthew 12:34 ... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

† Psalm 119:171 My lips shall utter praise ... 172 My tongue shall speak of thy word. . .

† Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on (arises from root word “logos”, something said [spoken]) these things.

Our “beliefs” stand above and apart from all others of the world’s having to do with our relationships and life after death, that Jesus Christ is the only way to God (there are not many ways to Him), the eternalness of God, the Trinity, the virgin birth of Jesus, the indwelling of God’s Spirit in the Christian, and the coming again of Jesus.

(“Believe [ed, est]” is used 99 times in John’s Gospel
and of the 269 uses in the N.T. = 37%.
)

Our true beliefs (aka faith) are the basis for our repentance, forgiveness, spiritual growth, pleasing God, good works, and ultimately being saved into His kingdom at death.
( )
† Hebrews 11:1 Now faith (having been persuaded, convicted of and reliance on God’s truth) is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. . . 6 But without faith (belief) it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

† John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

† Philippians 1:28 …in nothing [be] terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake. . .

We have “ordinances and practices” that include water baptism in the representative Names of God, communion with God at the table, marriage vows before God, asking for and ending prayer in the Name of Jesus, and for those that will, foot washing, and for those that can, our assembling together…
( )
† Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

† 1 Corinthians 11:23 …the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

† John 13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

† Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

 Then there are these:

Our manners and customs are to (be) love, forgiveness,
caring, kindness and giving, to do right, and prayer:

( )
† Matthew 6:9 After this manner (in this way) therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

† 1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (behavior [lifestyle]). . .

† Acts 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed (you are more fortunate, extremely blessed) to give than to receive.

What are our “capabilities”? They include trusting in the eternal God for the good and in spite of the hardships, representing God and His Savior-Son Jesus, affection for all men, long patience, laying down our lives for our brethren…
( )
† Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

† James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

† 1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch ye (be vigilant, stay awake), stand fast (persevere) in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 14 Let all your things be done with charity (love, affection, benevolence).

And as to our values, pursuits and the habits of our new culture? What we value and how we express the aspects of our new culture include a pro-life attitude and stand, righteousness in our affairs with all others, loving fellowship with other believers, and being givers more than receiving.

We pursue knowledge about God, an increasingly devoted heart after God and time alone with Him, affection for and the help and good of others. And leaving behind old habits of selfishness and thoughtless sin, our habits as followers of Jesus are to read our Bibles, be done with sin in our lives while avoiding even the appearance of evil, [our habits include] having close friendships with those of like faith and not socializing much with the world, loving always and helping when and where we can, and sharing about Jesus and what the Bible says about the things of life with others.

Of these things we have discussed
This is the summary statement:

We are new creatures and different than all other living beings in the entirety of God’s creation seen and unseen. We are to increasingly comprehend that by our reading and practice of God’s written Word and fellowship with Him.

As genuine followers of Jesus Christ, having discussed only several of them in these four segments, we are to live in the ways that our new culture is about and shun the attitude, ways and temptations of the old culture that we have been purchased out of by the precious blood of Jesus.

This is what I perceive the Holy Spirit is declaring to those with ears to hear today: When you walk upon the glorious streets of Heaven there will be no doubt about who those are that had lived lives as new creatures upon the earth in the culture of holiness and love—will this be you?

Do you personally measure-up to the things you have heard in these 4 weeks?

If you do not, and I dare say that none of us are yet perfectly aligned with our new culture but we are urged forward by the Spirit of the Living God. We are factually and actually new creatures (new-living-beings) and made part of a holy culture; remind yourselves and meditate on what this means to you, searching-out what more is to be known about this reality that is ours as followers of Jesus and the children of the eternal God.

( )
† 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. 10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 11 Let him eschew (avoid, shun) evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. . . 14 [And] if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
