Porterville City Council Candidate
John Duran
(559) 788-0800

John Duran CAMPAIGH WEB SITE :

My name is John "Juan" Duran, I came to Porterville in 1963. I grew up on Eastside Porterville and attended Alta Vista School. When my family located to Porterville, my family was one of two Latino families on Tyler Avenue. I attended Porterville High School and Porterville College. I am a Veteran and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps.

Since the age of 13 until my retirement from the State of California Department of Corrections I have held 74 jobs. To name a few of my employers I worked for the City of Porterville, Tulare County Clerks Office, Tulare County Housing of Authority, U. S Forest Service, Porterville Schools, Safeway Market, Smiths Market, SaveMart Stores, Sierra Minit Mart, BJ Minit Mart, Foodland Market, Sherwood Homes, Gang Sue Restaurant, Tulare County Veterans Administration, Challenge Builders Bakersfield, Cates Construction Palm Dale. I am proud to say that I was never terminated by any of my employers.

My first reason for seeking a seat on the Porterville City Council is to create a more acceptable environment in the community by converting the city in to a more comfortable community. I want to work with city government to bring a better job market to Porterville which has never been accomplished by any other council. I want to commence more development to the East-side of Porterville I travel streets all around Porterville which have been here since 1963 which have remain in the decaying stage today as they were yesterday. I want to revive Porterville Main Street by encouraging new businesses to open up shop with a new and welcoming concept.

My second reason is to create a more exciting, challenging and energy driven environment for the children and teenagers in the area in the form of city sponsored events, anything and everything from whatever they are currently engaged in, to concerts, education competitions, government participating forum competitions, vocational work projects, etc.

My third reason is to open up the books for more transparent government operations and full accountability on check and balances. In the line of being a servant to the people, I am committed to review all of the city spending in every department for the last five years. I want to be able to tell the taxpayers how their taxes were, are and how they will be spent.

I encourage every register voter to exercise their right to vote. Even if they don't vote for me, but at least vote. In doing so I only ask that every person casting his vote ask themselves, are they better off today than they were two years ago following the last elections? There is nine candidates seeking two seat on the council in this election. People need to ask themselves a second question, why is that? Could it be that so many are discontent with a non-effective sitting council. There could be no other reason.

If the residents of Porterville desire change, I am committed to bringing you that change, because you and your families deserve better. Personally, I don't take NO for an answer and I don't appreciate EXCUSES, I will be a servant of the people.

Ask anyone who knows me, I mean what I say, and I do what I say. VOTE ... DURAN ... on JUNE 3rd.
