Post Letter to the Editor - Feb 04 2009
by Post Editor : letters@portervillepost.com

Dear Editor -- The purpose of this letter is to provide your readers with some information about the "Citizens Power Campaign" that is sweeping across California. This campaign is aimed at stopping the corrupt political machine made up of Public Employee Unions and Sacramento politicians. The Public Employee Unions are the strongest and most active special interest group in Sacramento. These unions and our elected representatives in Sacramento are bankrupting the state. The game is rigged and the taxpayers are footing the bill.

These unions have the power to automatically take hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, every year, out of the paychecks of government employees for special interest politics without having to ask for it. Who gives them that power? Politicians in Sacramento who take it from you in the form of taxes, that's who. So when they send paychecks to government employees the politicians withhold funds that are then given to the unions in the form of dues. In most cases the employees have no choice in the matter.

This means unions have huge amounts of money which allows them to "play " politics, elect their candidates, pass their initiatives, and bully or seduce politicians into voting for their agenda. Weak kneed politicians in both parties , who are not responsible stewards of our taxpayer dollars, cave to this pressure because they fear not having their election campaigns supported by the unions,or worse, having the unions support their opponents'.

The Citizen Power Initiative is a great way to put an end to this corrupt political practice. The initiative amends the California Constitution to make it illegal to deduct from the wages or earnings of a public employee any amount of money that would be used for political activities.

In a previous letter to the editor I talked about changes and choices that California must make if we want correct our course and save our state from financial ruin. Passage of this initiative would be a great way to start. I have signed, support, and endorse the Citizens Power Initiative. Please join with me and others to bring an end to this"back street affair" For more information go to Unplug The Political Machine.org. This is good for California.
