»  (Aug 09 2008) - Teaming Up for TEEN SERT

PORTERVILLE, CA -- Welcome to the Second Annual Hot Summer Days Music Festival Car and Bike Show … the signs and booths said. And for the most part Main Street was sectioned off as crowds came and went through out the morning and into the afternoon. Of course food and vender booths set up their displays along with many well known and fully restored cars from Rolin’ Relics car club.

This year, at the Second annual “Hot Summer Days Music Festival and Car and Bike Show” Porterville’s Student Emergency Response Training (TEEN SERT) organization received benefit from the efforts of a few local businesses, mainly Melissa Lentzner from Tantrums clothing store and a newly formed motor cycle club called Ching-a-lings.

TEEN SERT FUND RAISER | Second Annual Hot Summer Days Music Festival Car and Bike Show

Greg, the unofficial spokes person from Ching-a-lings told the Post they teamed up with Tantrums in Porterville for the second year to sponsor this main street event. Last year, Hot Summer Days fund raiser helped defray many medical expenses for the family of Katlin Pennic who had cystic fibrosis alone with her brother.

Melissa Lentzner from Tantrums said she started this “Hot Summer Days” fund raiser last year for the Pennic family who had two children who had cystic fibrosis - Katlain a teenager from Burton Middle School and her brother as well. According to Lentzner, Katlain’s brother went through a double lung transplant while she’s still on the waiting list for a double lung transplant. She’s been approved for a life donor and we wanted to help her last year with some of her medical bills.

Mr. Clyde Tillery, a local fireman in town and the one who’s launched the TEEN SERT in the local Junior and High schools four years ago told the Post that “ they appreciated what the community had done today to not only raise funds but community awareness of what TEEN SERT is all about.”

To donate to this cause please call Melissa at (559) 359-6980.

PRAYER : LORD, I Pray that these folks who have taken the time to raise money for these good and noble causes, will also take time to get to know YOU. I Pray that their efforts will increase as well as their businesses. LORD, I also Pray for all those Teenagers who have taken these TEEN SERT courses … that they’ll be ready to assist their schools at the time of need and to assist and train their communities as well with what they know. In JESUS Name I Pray …

Mr. Tillery and TEEN SERT Trainers

Teens who get involved with TEEN SERT become trained and certified in first aid, CPR, emergency response and emergency preparedness. They’re trained to assist their schools in any type of emergency, natural disaster. They train for 8 hours with the local police and the fire departments and the EMT’s in town, and according to Mr. Tillery, they do all this training on their own time.

“TEEN SERT, continued Mr. Tillery, was developed about 5 years ago in Colorado. After I came back from a Hurricane from Florida I decided that this would be a good program for Porterville to have. So I contacted the optimist club in Porterville and talked with folks from the Porterville school district, and they decided to adopt the program.”
