Porterville Area
2013 Earthquakes

Are You Ready for the BIG ONE ?

DID YOU KNOW - In an earthquake or other major disaster some people may be injured and many people are unaware that they might be on their own for 72 hours or more after a major earthquake. You might have to depend on yourself to treat injured family members, friends & coworkers, since outside assistance - including many local 9-1-1 services - might be over-taxed and may not be available. If you don't have a first aid kit, now is the time to assemble one. Click here to see what Disaster Drill Dan has to say about preparing for the BIG ONE ! USGS Quake Map

(May 08 2013) - UPDATED : Porterville Area Earthquake Map :
Post News Information : Post Editor A. L. "LUCKY" Lucketta-
PORTERVILLE, CA. - In 2008 the Post decided it would be a good idea to start tracking earthquake activity in the Porterville area. Even though our area rarely experiences big quake activity, we have noticed an increase in the number of quakes in our area. Mr. Gary Snyder from the USGS informed the Post that our area does not have a history of large earth quake activity, basically because of the charater and composition of the land. He did say he'd keep a close eye on our area but couldn't promise a long historical list of earth quakes in our area ... so the Post will. The second reason for tracking earthequake activity in this area has a lot to do with Lake Success. Congressman Nunes and the Army Corp of Engineers has stated that the main reason for lowering the water level of the dam was because of the dam structure itself being unsafe and in need of repairs below the release area.

So ... if you feel an earthquake in or around the Porterville area, let the Post know. Thanks - A. L. "LUCKY" Lucketta
