Two Wanted for Questioning after Narcotics and Weapons Found

On July 11, 2008 at approximately 7:00 AM, detectives with the Porterville Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Neighborhood Crimes Suppression Unit (NCSU) served a narcotic and weapons search warrant in the 100 block of North York Street.

Detectives conducted a search of the residence and located suspected marijuana and heroin, scales, and narcotic packaging materials. Detectives also located a cache of loaded assault rifles, shotguns and handguns seizing a total of ten illegal firearms.

Detectives located over 1,000 rounds of ammunition for the weapons and high capacity magazines. Some of the assault rifles confiscated were an AK-47 assault rifle, a .223 caliber AR-15 assault rifle and a stolen Tec-22 assault pistol.

Mattene Bakich was booked at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department for being in possession of illegal assault weapons, felon in possession of firearms, possession of ammunition by a felon and possession of controlled substances.

Detectives are also looking for Kendra Smotherman and Randy Schaffer who are wanted for questioning regarding this criminal investigation.
