Collecting Political Memorabilia
Anti-Q's and More - May 24 2008

In light of last nights political "Soirée" and really ... I am disappointed that the attendance was no better but as we well know this time of the year is taken up with all the kid things such as Prom's, Graduation's, party's for the privileged kids, and a few for the ones not so privileged, that is why we have gangs right?

We have political dilemmas right here in River City, no one in their right mind (or left mind) would vote for an incumbent on the city council, Baaaaa! some will but lets hope the sheep are not in great numbers this year.

There are four candidates running and technically there are four seats (or there should be) open, as I see it a clean sweep puts in a new council with several real man eaters there. I can hardly see Pete McCracken even opening his mouth ever again.

This is just a little insight on my part, yes I am the Lady with a crystal ball, I have never figured out where the on switch is, so I don't make great predictions, however this one appears to be a no brainer.

What has any of this to do with the antiques??? you ask, well here is your Antique Quests and column for May / June.

At the top of the list is of course Political memorabilia.

All antique stores have a great wealth of history making or breaking items, collector buttons, flags, signs, posters and even an occasional fan or plaque with some politicians name or face on it from the past.

Considering this is an election year I would suggest that, political buttons from the past might be very collectible and probably reasonable at this time.

To add to the fun of collecting the "experts", have stated that a renewed interest in "OLD" bottles may be a hot item. There again we have bottles and then we have BOTTLES. The political ones should be of great interest, mostly the whiskey (empty of course) figural bottles, with pink elephants or donkeys are sought out by the smart collectors, depending on your political standing.

I have not seen a new, really good, figural bottle in years, so you are pretty safe in collecting them.

Wait till China gets a load of this. What will they fill them with to sell them??? Do the Chinese make Whiskey???? Now that is something to look up or Google.

I am an antique dealer not a booze distributor. I don't even drink!!!! only an occasional glass of wine with dinner, and I have to be so careful as I am allergic to the sulphides in all distilled alcohol. It is one thing to have alcohol make you stupid drunk, it is definitely another matter to have it make you deathly ill.

I do not propose you find an antique unopened, figural whiskey bottle and drink it then try to find a market to sell it to. It might kill you to do so. I am proposing that you go looking for political oriented bottles to add to your collection.

And as always Happy Antique Hunting from Anti-Q's
