Instinctively he stopped to check on the child and observed that the parent was inside the restaurant picking up a “To-Go” order. As it turned out there were three children and one female parent, who was informed by Porterville P.D. that she needed to transport children this young and small in Child Safety seats or Child booster seats. This more-than-kind officer instructed her not to drive home this way and to contact someone who had child safety seats. To be sure, this was an accident waiting to happen. The Hang up … a fender-bender at the light between a Chevy pick-up and a small late model Honda Accord. Guess who went to the hospital and guess who went to the wrecking yard ? As a precaution, the first responders took the passengers in the pick-up to the hospital and the tow truck took the Honda to a garage. “At this time of day, Henderson Ave is one of the worst streets to travel on” a spectator told the Post. Another after-witness who was eating at a local diner said “Who would have ever thought that Porterville would someday have traffic like this and as many accidents. Click to Enlarge PORTERVILLE - So here’s kinda-sorta what happened. We say that because we’re gonna let this Police Officer submit his report to the department and let them play a little more referee with these kids, their parents and their schools. However, when the Post arrived, one of these young guns caught a sucker punk and was bleeding pretty good … enough that the “attending officer” called for an ambulance. Was this gang related, the Post asked. “It could be, the officer stated, but were not sure. We need to check with the schools and we should have a report finished in a couple of days. We’ll let you know.”

Click to Enlarge REEDLEY - Being at the right place at the right time, most will tell you, is the discription of the word "Luck", I call it being lead by the LORD. Any-whoo, today the Post was led by the Spirit as we were on our way to do another story and came across the tail end of a crime in progress. The Fresno County Sheriff had arrived about 30 seconds earlier and surrounded the outside of a light-tan house located in the barrio {West-Side} section of Reedley on Eveningglow street. Two Reedley Police cruisers rolled up moments later and the hunt was on. Local neighbors stood outside talking with the sheriff's as 2 county cops called for the suspects to come out. As the two officers ran to the back of the home a young man, approximately 5'10" and about 180 lbs walked out of the front door ... acting like he had just woke up.

Rookie cop - rookie mistake ?
(Feb 16 2008) - By Post Editor : A.L.Lucketta :
PORTERVILLE, CA. -- While most skaters know they should be wearing helmets at Porterville's skate park, they also know you can still get hurt even if you do wear them. That aside, the real harm today was a rookie cops decision ... to act like a rookie. At about $175.00 a ticket, many were handed out. The skaters final impression of this new officer's firm decision left more than a new hole in their wallets -- it left a new hole in the hearts. "I was just sitting in the park and not riding anything," one 14 year old told the Post. "This changed my decision to become a police officer" -- another ticket holder shared. Once you rack up a few of these the fines you could pay upwards to $1000.00 dollars. One parent who stood off in the parking lot told the Post ... " this cop was treating these kids like they're gang members. And maybe the way this whole thing went down ... maybe a few of these kids just might cross that line because of what happened." When the Post got the call and arrived at the scene, heads were cool and words were not abusive. After the office left the skaters felt at ease and told their stories to the Post. NOTE : If you believe that one of Porterville's finest wasn't doing a fine job, e-mail the Post and we'll look into it.
