Post News : Post Editor -
Steve Schultz, Vice-President, Porterville College, has announced that with the cooperation of California State University Bakersfield, a new program is being offered that will allow students to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree without having to leave the area.
The special sessions degree will be for the B.S. in Child, Adolescent, and Family Studies. It will be available beginning September 1, 2008 on the PC campus.
The classes will from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings. They will also be offered online.
Schultz said, “This degree program is the culmination of a lot of work and coordination between the CSUB and PC staffs. We are excited about this opportunity. It is such a wonderful thing when a degree and credential program from a California State University can be offered locally and students don’t have to commute long distance.
The main reason for PC to even apply for the baccalaureate planning grant was hopefully to provide our community with expanded educational opportunities. Our extensive surveys proved that the overwhelming desire for such a program justified our pursuit, and our efforts have now paid off. We expected to get around 100 returns, but ended up with over 500.”
Information meetings will be held in the PC Student Conference Room on April 9 and 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
No appointment is necessary.
Walk-ins are welcome.
